We arrived at the Ministry of Higher Education, Science & Technology right on time at 8 a.m. this morning. Here's the first thing we saw in the lobby:
That really surprised us - that the fact of corruption in the Government of Kenya is so widely apparent.
We were led into a huge formal board room where we set up our laptop with our presentation on screen. We waited for about an hour for the Permanent Secretary to arrive. Men in suits kept coming into the room, sitting for a few minutes, then getting up and leaving. At around 9 a.m. the Deputy came in and everyone shuffled their seats so that he had the prominent seat in the middle of the table, as befitting his position. He announced to us that the Permanent Secretary was not available and that he was the "stand in". So, we started!
The meeting went very smoothly and we were very excited at the end when we were told that the Ministry is sending a team to Machakos so they can be with us during the work time! That is great teaming and exceeded our expectations.
Here I am presenting one of my charts in the meeting.
As we wrapped up our meeting we exchanged small token gifts with each other. I was given a pocket mirror, decorated as a giraffe in honour of Team Twiga!
We all posed for a few pictures before we left. On my left in the blue tie is Dr. Nyangate Areba. He will be one of our main clients for the next four weeks. I am looking forward to meeting with him more- he has a great sense of humour.
So tomorrow, Team Twiga will be back at the Ministry offices for the full day, getting some of our million questions answered.
Nime furahi kukutana na wewe! (I am very pleased to meet you!)
